Eight months ago, baby Cecilia Brew was born into this world of madness. I knew life would never be the same. The day I became an aunt was one of the happiest yet scariest days of my life. My sister had a baby and I had no idea what that would mean for our relationship. What that would mean for our sister's time, that was already cut short when her husband came around. My sister has always been my best friend and my favourite person. We spent a lot of time together growing up so this baby was going to be another big change in our lives. I was no longer going to be her #1 girl. But this drastic change I was anticipating, never really came at all. Or it did, but in a much different way. This Cecilia Brew, the most energetic and sassy baby girl I’ve ever met, brought my sister and me even closer. My big sister who always took the best care of me, and still does, now could use a little sister by her side. As a new mom, she needs her sister's time more than ever. And I’m so happy to be there for both of them. Hanging out with them is one of my favourite things to do and I can’t wait to be there for my niece the way that my sister was always there for me. I can’t wait to be the coolest, most badass aunt ever. And I can’t wait to experience all this with my sister.

If you are starting a new project, new life, new experience, or you just want something to change, if it gets difficult: breath, look the small things, enjoy, let go of what you don’t need and keep going. The road could be hard, but it’s always exciting and full of new beautiful people, places and experiences.
You can do it.
Everything will be ok.
Alma ❤️ LOTS OF LOVE ❤️”

“From Manhattan, NYC
Dec 2020
Sometimes I think to myself I have a hidden bestseller hiding inside me, if only people could hear the stories I have to tell!! But then when I take paper to pen (or is it the other way round?), I feel - “uhm… what should I write that will make people laugh out loud, cry, feel jealous of my spectacular wit (!?) and ponder deep; sometimes at all at once! Then, I read (or try to) what I have written so far and settle for, “I will be happy if the reader can just read my hand writing and make sense of my scribbles.” #goalsmet? Perhaps.
My story for today is a memory looking back at this year. We came back from a short vacation in Toronto early March not realizing it would be our international trip of the year! We started getting phone calls and texts from friends - first making fun of me or situation, asking if people in hazmat suites were brining us food. Obviously, no one realized the year we were in for. Some calls and texts were of a concerning nature; versions of “are you ok? Is NYC safe? Why are you still there?”
When a cousin who’s single and has asthma called us frantically asking us if she should/we should move to neighbouring city for a month or two, it was tempting. An outdoor place, a place in the woods hopefully without a TV, we packed bags and food and supplies. We packed a lot! But in the end we stayed put cause we have plants - living being that depend on us for weekly water and I wasn’t going to abandon them. Also, I didn’t feel like leaving my city. We prevailed with a lot of Cuomo watching and so did our city! As far our cousin, she’s joined a line of admirers who want to become Mrs. Cuomo - #goalsmet ? For sure :)“

{2 of 2 posts} ...”I arrived in Madrid at 9 am on that day, and when I was in Madrid train station, it was already 5 pm. I haven’t had any food in the entire day, so I went to a convenience store for a chocolate bar. Another accident happened - my Apple Pay didn’t support transactions in Euros! I was so embarrassed in the line, but a gentleman standing behind me said, “ I can pay for it, it’s just a chocolate bar.” I almost burst into tears, I told him how much it meant to me :), cause he is the hero who saved me from having a bad ending of my first day in Spain.
That is the story I want to share, and I’ve learnt a lot through it, here are some of them:
-Take care of personal belongings
-Don’t put all your money in one place
-Try to calm down even when things are urgent
-Nice people and bad people are everywhere, so be open-minded and careful <3
Hope y’all could have a pleasant experience when traveling, also, the rest of my stay in Spain was excellent! 10/10 recommended!
-Zhengyuan Yang, China, 27/09/2020”

![{1 of 2 posts} “I have never had so many feelings in one single day, but it happened in summer 2018. I was doing a summer school in Seville, Spain. When I just arrived in Madrid airport, I needed to take the subway to the Madrid central train station (because Seville is 2h by train from Madrid). But, when I bought the ticket at the airport subway station, after 5 min, I realized my wallet was stolen. I put all of my cash (around 200 euros), credit cards, debit card, and student ID in it.
Honestly, at that moment, I was too scared to cry. I called my parents in China (luckily I bought an extremely expensive but useful SIM card in the Madrid airport, before loosing all my money), and asked them to cancel the credit cards. Then I went to the subway station and asked the staff members to help me. However, their English is not good and the (only) thing they can say was “sorry I don’t speak English”. I almost lost all my hope, then I remembered one of the few words I new in Spanish, “policía”! I “yelled” at the staff there, they got my point and brought me to the airport police station.
When I was in the police station, the officers there told me that the only police officer who could speak English well was not there! Fortunately, she was available on the phone. I talked with her on the phone in English, the police officer at the station filed the report in Spanish, at the same time I was also talking to my mom in Mandarin!
#multilingualism
When they finally finished the report, they just told me to bring it to the travelling insurance company, and they would close the case since there have always been lots of stealing in this airport. [At the time I was there, I saw an officer carrying a handful of lost IDs and passports in his hand…]
The police officer got me a free subway ticket, so I could leave the airport and go to the train station. My summer school teacher bought me a train ticket, so I could leave Madrid and go to Seville.”

“A girl from the dessert they may think. But, I am a lot more than that. Being from the Middle East doesn’t just mean that. Being from Yemen does not just mean that I am back warded. It doesn’t just mean that my rights are violated as a woman in my community. There are many things that made me the person I am now. I know it is human nature to stereotype. It’s just easier for our brains. But, why don’t we ask questions before jumping to conclusions. What questions? Let’s ask more meaningful questions rather than asking “where are you from?” You see, I have lived in different countries and cities the last few years. People viewed me differently based on their idea of what a woman is, what an Arab is, what a Yemeni is…
I am the same person, but in their eyes I am so many different personalities. I started noticing this when I moved to the UK. When I lived in a multicultural city. I won’t lie it annoyed me at first, but I got used to it.
Recently, I started thinking about it more, when another title or rather baggage was added to what defines me as a person. I recently got divorced, and sharing this, reflected on people differently. Single, married, separated, divorced, all those titles put us inside boxes that are never fair to us. What makes me Hadil is what makes me smile, laugh and cry. My values, beliefs and actions are what defines me. I am a lot more than a divorced Arab woman. Next time you speak with someone new, try to put your stereotype in pause or maybe ask more fundamental questions before asking about age, race, and status. This is how you will get to know, see people from whom they really are!
Hadil, Yemen”

“Every good play has at least four acts, so let me paint the scenery that is DEERHURST.
ACT 1
Growing up I had a privilege childhood. Great friends, family and epic summers spent up north. Deerhurst was a dream for children; an utopia land to play endlessly at the pool, beach and hotel amenities. The highlight of every year was spending time in the sun at Deerhurst during summer break. I especially loved the bambi club which was a daycare camp run by the hotel staff, it was basically the childhood equivalent of an all inclusive spa vacation for adults. What a blessed childhood.
ACT 2
The magic of Deerhurst maintained its magic over the years. As I grew older, my childhood utopia land turned into awesome place to come wind down and get away from the city. Or just the opposite -> an epic place to bring my girlfriends up to party and drink SMIRNOFF VODKA! The first girls trip we were 16. Looking back on photos, literally children still. And there were lots of photos, all posted on Facebook of course! Photos of us breaking into old abandoned hotel bar, drinking from the bottle and mooning each other. We also left our friend passed out drunk on the beach, if I remember correctly -> fantastic friends we were. As photos circulated Deerhurst soon became the talk of our high school.
ACT 3
A fews later, but equally immature, I brought a boy up to Deerhurst. He was older, I thought I was in love and was so excited to share my special (parent special) gateway up north with him. Turns out he was more interested in having sex and watching the show COPS the whole time. Long story short, that relationship ended shortly after.
ACT 4
Sadly Deerhurst has lost some of its magic in recent years. The resort has started to show its wear and what used to feel like royalty, now feels like monotony. That said, the resort will always hold a special place in my heart and remains my favourite location to go do magic mushrooms and reminisce about my fantastic life.

I got back one of the Traveling Books notebook that I left last year at a hostel here in Toronto. I had to wait for a few months due to quarantine, but I’m now super excited to see what’s happening on those stories inside this book 🤩
I already see so many stories written and will be sharing some of them with you here on Instagram, on Facebook and on our website. Stay tuned ✨

“Pandemic.
It has given enormous amount of pain to people around the world, and a second chance for every single safely isolating person, to live their life again. The world is slow, people have lost their lives, people are thriving to survive, mental stress for survival, everything is slowing down like anything. But if you leave every single thing the world behind you, once never seen by naked eyes have come out. Who thought moose will come out? Who thought you will have time to sit with your kid, and ask what relief does he want? The life that we actually live, we don’t have a single second to think about any stuff. Today, you have at least time to figure our what you want to do or regain yourself - you may realize that you have regained what you were back. You are not stable, things may not go on the way as you thought, however you do something that makes you happy. You have time for your family. There is time to feel nature. You see sunsets. You see how beautiful the clouds are. You make your tummy happy. You tried something new or you did something that you used to do. That’s the thing. Life by the reason of pandemic has given you a chance to regain yourself, and to own what you were apart from the materialistic life. Appreciate this and let things settle on it’s own.”

”Dear Reader,
Technology has always held a level of ‘fascination’ with me. Yet, when quarantine began, I decided to revert back to my ancestral roots by sending out handwritten letters instead of a speedy text. The results were rewarding, raw and fruitful! It gave me a chance to slow down and appreciate life one moment at a time. It created a version of myself which I longed to reconnect with.
Pulling away from the social media world of continuous comparisons and instant trends felt natural. Eventually, I stopped caring what was being posted and started caring about what was around me in the real world; about those who I care about. Even my friends found joy within this simple, yet, exciting form of communication!
Quarantine started off as horrendous, scary and unnerving, but finding this natural and loving route made it all worth while ❤️.
Lots of love.”

Handwritten story page #2 - Post 2 of 2 “I did many things to stop my aging. I changed my birthday on Facebook and invest massively in face care treatments. How silly it all seems from the time perspective. And I know I need to be brave and I was confused and not happy. It is very hard to make a good decision if you are “not” good, and things that are very dear are not visible when your sigh is blurred. But I took a look outside from my balcony and suddenly I noticed a big sign “CHANGE”. I mean it is huge, I don’t know if it was always there, but from that moment I knew that every day I’ll get a little nudge to change. I talked with my boss and he instead of taking my resignation gave me unpaid leave - I got freedom. I travelled with a friends, who had a friend who wanted to move temporarily to my apartment - I got no rent cost. And I red about my dream place, got a ticket, packed the backpack and went for my wonderful adventure, wonderful trip. I made my biggest dream come true. And believe it or not, first week on the climb to first volcano, I met someone and I fell so much in love. First month of my travels was filled with butterflies in my belly travel companion to share the memories.
Of course I didn’t die at 36. Soon I will be 37 but I made my life worth living. Looking how happy I am today, I wish everyone to have the courage to pursue their happiness.
Lots of love.

Handwritten story page #1 - Post 1 of 2 “Long time ago on some halloween party a random fortune teller told me that I’m going to die before I reach 36 years. And I knew that you should not trust fortune tellers or that you should not … to what ever happens when you drink, but for some reasons above my imagination this prophecy stayed with me for many yeas. It became very strong on my 35th birthday. Like this thought, this is a last year. The world is going to stop. I was concerned maybe because thinking of it I could make it true, like a self fulfilling prophecy, like a bad spell. I was even considering to go to a medium, or professional fortuneteller to ask for advise or to break the cycle. Instead I’ve asked myself what I really want, if I really die, what I would like to have experience, and the answers were clear in very confounded way. Seems clear now but it wasn’t that easy to understand it back then. I was in a bad relationship and I dreamed about love. I was in a boring job and I dreamed about travel, going for a world trip, freedom of not going to the office, and waking up every day to a new adventures instead to … emails. .

“Dear Book,
What can I say about my adventures in Canada? Like most people will find they are shaped by the people we meet and interact with.
Being on a working holiday visa had meant that I am able to live and work with people for months. To really get to know them and the places I have lived in Toronto is one such a place. In fact, I loved it so much and developed such strong connections and memories that I came back again.
2nd year working for a Toronto Christmas Market, 2nd year hearing the tales and adventures from people I call friends and even family.
To travel is amazing, to live and truly experience a place…is even better, it is precious and it will leave you with connections that will last forever.”

“I am going to tell you about my dog. Her name was Bagel and she was perfection. She was a dachshund with short light brown hair and short legs. I met her when I was 9 and she died when I was 25. I knew her longer than I knew my father. She barked a lot and had terrible breath. She would burrow under the covers and get stick inside the duvet. She did not like walks but always had a trim figure. She showed off basking in the sun on the front steps. Everyone who walked by knew her name. She was a true legend. She smelled and felt like happiness. I will never love again.” By ED, a traveler.

“Who am I? Through all of your experiences, relations, decisions - from your favourite colour to the studies you chose to follow, remains this unique question.
Am I a part of the world or am I among the world?
We’re told travelling helps defining yourself. Does it? You can define yourself back in your dream in your home country. What travelling really does is simple: it makes you see a world you already know but didn’t embodied yet. At the dawn of 2020, it took only 20 years to men and women to hide behind pictures of their recent trip without thinking about living the very moment, cause present is all we do have now. My point is most people don’t embody this external world they’re visiting, they just deeply want to remember they’ve seen it. Cause that’s who they are. That’s who we are, truly and deeply curious. Curious about things we do know and things we don’t know. Curious about ourselves, about you, about me. And if you stay curious, then my friend this means you’re profoundly human.” By N., a traveler - 22/12/2019 .

“Less screen time is good!
This happened few years ago. I had just moved to Chicago - the windy city - for a job. One month into the job, my parents and my sister were visiting me. I was very excited and took my mom and sister to the Water Tower mall on the famous Michigan Avenue. It was summer time, so the place was buzzing with people. My sister being a cosmetics lover - took us to LUSH - the high end makeup and cosmetics superstore. I decided watching a short Youtube video would be a good idea. In the store, one of the employees was demoing a face mask and was surrounded by a lot of people. My sister went there and I was following. At end of the demo, the women handed the face mask to me!!! In a small cup. Why me? I was just mutt to her engrossed in the video. I was not paying attention, just drank it bottom up!!!
All I remember was the audience was in surprise and agony - and I got a reason to reduce my cellphone addiction!!!” By Vinit P. - traveler

“I saw for the first time I ever travelled by myself, when I went to New York, two girls from my school join the same program. We had met a few times and had classes together, and I thought they were nice. But the 3 of us had different groups of friends so we would not hang out together.
As it was easier we rented a place together. After 6 months living together going through hard times and amazing moments when travelling, laughing, watching movies, I can confidently say that they are friends made for life.
It is funny that after almost 3 years in the same school we need to travel more than 6000 km to start to know each other.
After visiting great places, doing an amazing internship the one thing I will treasure from this experience, is the new friends I’ve made.” By Emilie - 16 Feb. 2020

...(see first sentences of handwriting on previous post.) “Bro?” “Yes, Bro?“ “I love you Bro”. A normal greeting between my best friend and I, a combination of few basic words that serve as my personal reservoir of strength and happiness. I will literally reverse my hug, rewind to the point I’m no longer in her view and press play if we skip the routine introduction. “KFC def has kids and he’s living his best life.” “I hope so, he used to greet us everyday.” Just a casual hope here shared between my soul nugget and myself; a bird, whom we hamed after the Fried chicken fast food chain, used to perch itself at 6:30am every morning as we waited for the train to school. One morning he wasn’t there and now I think it’s because his work was done. He helped bring two strangers together for life by giving something to break the ice with.“ Princess R., Philadelphia, PA, US

”Petals? or Pedals?” “Why on Earth would you raise your foot off the petal…?” “To say I rose to the occasion” “That was beyond horrible”

Well I’ll get this book started. I have been at Hostel Toronto for three days. I leave today. As usual it has been a good stay at the hostel. My first stay here. Last night I had a brief conversation with a fellow from England. Then a fairly long interaction with a young lady from Brazil, this is typical of a hostel stay.
I have almost 77 y.o. and have been staying in hostels since about 1968. It’s a great way to meet people. I typically travel alone so I stay at hostels or B&Bs. Hotels and motels are so cold with few interactions. I love people.
My most unique hostel stay was spending four days in jail. The hostel in Ottawa is in the old city jail. I had a key to both sides of my cell door. I’ve gotten a lot of “milage” out of that stay.
All of my stays have been in Canada. There are no hostels where I travel in the USA. I am a US citizen. I do plan to stay at the one in Chicago on a future trip there. I've heard good things about it. …
Hostels used to be primarily for youth, I think. Today, they are for those young at heart and open to new experiences, people, and places.” Dale

I lived at Clarence park from September 2018 till May 2019, so 8 months and during this time I met some incredible people who taught me so much about spirituality, the spirit realms, native beliefs, the purpose & meaning at life. And I learned a lot about health and myself. Meeting people from all over the world such as Australia, Mexico, France, Germany, Sweden, Dominican Republic, USA, and India in one place was an experience you can’t get anywhere else. This hostel saved me in many ways, I’m thankful, and will never forget my experience here.” By Anonymous

“Toronto 2019
I’ve been looking outside the window all day, snowfalls and all. My grandma had warned me about the weather but this is the most beautiful I have seen. All white!
And like I imagined, it is very cold in Toronto, give me the extra blanket. Where do I go next? Edmonton? Vancouver? Maybe Whistler? My mind is wondering. The beauty of these eclectic travels. I love you Toronto! Thank you for having me here.” By Benedict

“Being new in a city is never easy. I keep telling myself that after 5 new “hometowns” in my life, the next one will be easier because of everything I already know.
But there is alway something exciting and different that makes your previous knowledge useless. And here is where difficult becomes fascinating and new things turn from scary to attractive. And here I am, ready to make Toronto my new hometown for the next few years.

“One Day,
I spoke to a runner.
She said she’d hurt herself - She had torn a muscle! BUT
She kept running, every day.
She was making her injury worse but sound it hard to stop.
RUNNING HAD BECOME A HABIT. @——@
One of my friends was upset about something trivial.
She was angry - with a stranger.
She lets her emotions run
away with her & dwells too long on bad experiences etc.
Her anger does her MORE harm than the stuff she’s angry about.
She finds it hard to stop.

“On March 24, 2019 I adopted Bronte, a mutt rescued from Mexico. Her mom was someone’s pet, and when she had puppies they lived in a backyard, malnourished with fleas. A rescue organization called The Doggo Project Mexico saved them and nursed the puppies back to health. A few months later they were brought to Canada. I adopted Bronte through an organization called Save Our Scruff. The day we brought her home she was terrified, and hid in her crate for 5 days straight with time, and feeding her treats she eventually came out of her crate and accepted love. It has been 9 months since then, and she has completely come out of her shell, she knows lots of tricks, and loves belly rubs <3 ⁃L, Dec 23, 2019

“Hey,
I’ve been dreaming about this moments for almost 20 years. Yeah, long time. When I was a child, I saw about Canada on TV and I fell in love with everything here.
So, here I am! I’m 28 y.o and making my dreams coming true, it’s very exciting!
It’s my first experience abroad in a hostel… with snow…with everything. The better part was meet lovely guys to share this moments (the first snow was awesome). I’m leaving tomorrow morning, however, my heart is broken. I’d like to spend all my course time here, unfortunately it’s not possible.

I am excited at the prospects of discovering this North American city where everyone looks and sounds so different! My very first experience today was to try the infamous Poutine. I am very surprised at ...” by Cindy from the UK.

“My journey to Canada wasn’t just another trip embarked upon, as I frequently do; however was an adventure I never envisioned in my whole wide world. "...I have been here for 7 days now. Arriving from Dubai with nothing but 2 suit cases of clothes and a carry on of training material. I sit in shock, I am in my own country and have nowhere to go and there is a restriction-has been put on my credit card. The only access to money I have. I call my friend a Landmark grad who said I can stay with her...You are in Mexico?!" Written at @goslinglanding
